The owner of a black cat named Moonpie revealed the reason behind his unusual name, causing hysterics among internet users.
In a viral TikTok video shared in November under the username @bllowe97, the poster addresses users’ questions regarding where her cats got their names, explaining every single one of them in detail.
“We’re going to start with big old Moonpie right here. I got Moonpie’s name after the moonpie snacks, his cheeks just remind me of moonpies, so that’s why his name is Moonpie,” she says in the clip, as she holds up the huge round-faced black feline, before bringing up his siblings, Callie, Lilo, Meeko, Roo and Chloe.
Moonpie looks much bigger than his siblings, but there are some cat breeds that get even bigger than him.
The average domestic cat usually weighs between 8 and 10 pounds and measures about 9 to 10 inches in height at the shoulder.
However, Dr. Jess Kirk says in an article published on Vet Explains Pets that many factors can influence a cat’s size, including their breed, genetics, diet and their overall health. Gender also plays a role, as males are usually bigger.
A cat’s size can be an indicator or their health levels too. Felines who are underweight or overweight are more exposed to health issues such as malnutrition, diabetes, or joint issues.
According to veterinarian services website Pango Vet, the 10 biggest can breeds include Savannah cat; Norwegian forest cat; Ragdoll; Siberian; Ragamuffin; British Shorthair; Chausie; Turkish Van; American Bobtail; and Maine Coons.
First on the list, Maine Coons are the biggest breed of domesticated cats, which can weigh up to 18 pounds. They are also friendly and easy-going, and might even let you walk them on a leash.
One the other hand, the smallest cat breed is the Singapura, which can weigh between 4 and 8 pounds, but despite their size, they are energetic, playful and affectionate, and love exploring.
The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 213,500 views and 54,000 likes on the platform.
One user, Jay, commented: “Holy hell Moonpie is way bigger than I thought! So handsome.”
Susanne Elaine said: “Moonpie looks like he’s storing a whole moonpie in each cheek.”
Erika Firestone wrote: “Why did I not realize how big is head is now that I see it next to yours.”
Elizabeth added: “The size difference when it changed from [Moonpie] to Callie.”
