BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – A Baton Rouge animal shelter has two programs going on to hopefully find more dogs a home.
Companion Animal Alliance (CAA) is currently participating in “Empty the Shelters” and “Home for the Holidays.”
“Empty the Shelters” runs through Sunday, December 15, and allows for adoption fees to be waived for all spayed and neutered pets at CAA.
The program is a partnership with the Bissell Pet Foundation.
The “Home for the Holidays” campaign runs through Friday, December 20, and aims to get dogs into the home of a foster parent during the holidays.
The campaign is especially focused on finding foster parents for dogs that have been at CAA for 50 days or more. By getting those pets in a foster home, the shelter can gather information about their personalities, habits, and more and can increase their chances of finding a more permanent home.
“Fostering provides so much more than simply a break from the shelter,” said JT Hackett, the executive director at CAA. “It allows the animals’ true personalities to shine and provides behavior information that we wouldn’t have received otherwise.”
Anyone interested in fostering a dog can stop by the animal shelter any Tuesday through Saturday between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. and any Sunday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Fosters will need to bring their dog back to CAA on the week of January 2 but will be able to keep their dogs should they wish to adopt them. Either way, the fosters will still need to make an appointment the week of January 2.
“While our goal is to place these dogs in temporary foster homes, those who foster are welcome to adopt them if they find a connection. Regardless, the dogs benefit from the comfort of a home, which is a rewarding experience for both the dogs and their foster families,” said Collins Fairly, CAA’s foster program manager.
Foster parents will also be encouraged to take the dogs to adoptions events to hopefully help partner the animals with potential adopters.
CAA is located at 2550 Gourrier Avenue in Baton Rouge.
