German Shepherd & Raven’s Unexpected Friendship Must Be Seen to Be Believed

Dogs often have a unique ability to befriend anyone they encounter. Animals from other species can also easily recognize their kind hearts and gentle nature. While it’s not uncommon for cats or bunnies to form friendships with household dogs, it’s much rarer for a wild bird to do so.

This might seem especially true for wild birds of prey like Ravens. However, one German Shepherd won over a new feathered friend, and it appears they may be besties for life.

You can watch these two pals playing together, like a scene from a Disney movie, in a video shared on December 2.

This certainly isn’t something you see every day. This brilliant Raven, adorably called Cheryl, picked the perfect companion in a stunning German Shepherd, and it seems like Greta (@greta.cheryl) relishes the companionship of her feathered friend. Just like dogs playfully switch roles in their games of chase, this unusual duo does the same, taking turns to pursue one another. Oh, how cute they are! Seeing this kind of interspecies friendship right outside your window is truly a sight to behold. Who needs a TV when you have this in your backyard?

Are Ravens Known for Being Social with Dogs?

You may be surprised to learn that ravens engage in symbiotic relationships with other animals, including wolves. In these interactions, both parties benefit from each other’s presence. This social behavior also extends to dogs, particularly when food is involved. For instance, ravens may follow dogs to scavenge for food or share in the remains of their meals, such as when dogs leave behind bones. According to Yellowstone Forever, Ravens have been observed playing with wolf pups and yearlings. They report that these birds sometimes grab sticks to play tug-of-war with the wolf puppies. They have even been seen flying over with sticks to tease the pups or pulling on their tails. In a subsequent video, Greta’s mom reveals Cheryl has also been doing this to her German Shepherd pal. How funny!

This precious pairing enchanted people. Viewer @GabrielleDoucette joked, “I’m so sick of watching other people live my dreams.” Ha! It’s a sight most animal lovers would love to see. Viewer @Kell responded, “Animal friendships are underrated. This is just gorgeous.” That’s for sure. Viewer @DC remarked, “This brought me so much joy to watch!” It’s better than anything we could choose to watch on TV.

Although it’s less typical to witness these days, bonds between different species have existed long before humans came into the picture. This is another reminder to step into nature, as we never know what magic we may be lucky to see.
