IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – If you’ve ever wanted a place to relax and share some downtime with cats, you’re in luck. The Kitty Corner Social Club is set to open in February next year in Downtown Iowa City.
The cat lounge will be a home-like setting, housing around seven to 10 adoptable cats from Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center at a time.
Founder Katy Brown said the relaxed setting will hopefully help the cats become more comfortable and let their true personalities shine.
She said whether you’re looking to take home your forever friend or just need a little serotonin boost, the lounge will be a place for everyone.
”I’m really excited about the impact on the mental health of our community. I think it’s a really hard time to be a human,” said Founder Katy Brown. ”I want to connect people to their community. I want to connect them to their value system. I want to connect them to an outlet for joy in their life. To other businesses in our community.”
Leaders with the adoption center said the partnership couldn’t have come at a better time.
Right now they have 147 cats in their care.
”We need adoptions, that’s for sure,” said Jen Read with the Center. ”We are so excited for this. It’s going to just, I think, open some new doors for not only the shelter but the community as well that haven’t been there before, so we’re super excited.”
The Kitty Corner Social Club is set to open in early 2025 on 20 South Clinton Street in Iowa City.
Pricing starts at $11 for 15 minutes of time with the cats.
All proceeds go back to running the lounge.
